2019-06-13 2018-04-01 The dGEMRIC index (mean ± sd) at four times (min ± sd) after intravenous injection of double dose Magnevist. The dGEMRIC index was 20–30 % lower in the patients with early OA compared to healthy volunteers (P < 0.003) at all time points, with largest difference at the earlier time points due to faster wash-in of the contrast in the OA cartilage. The dGEMRIC index in the group below 50 (no FAI) was higher than in the group with an alpha angle above 65 (consistent with FAI, P ¼ 0.026). Furthermore, the total dGEMRIC index in SCFE hips correlated inversely to the alpha angle (P ¼ 0.046, R ¼ 0.40) (Fig. 5). For this correlation, one randomly selected hip was used in the two bilateral cases.

Regression analysis adjusted for age, sex, body mass index (BMI), and presence of clinical knee OA. Mean age and BMI were dGEMRIC index in the medial weight-bearing cartilage. Conclusions: The higher pre-contrast T 1 in the superficial region than in the deep region is an indication of a higher water content in superficial cartilage. In the current dGEMRIC protocol, Gd-DTPA 2− is administered per kilogram body weight with the assumption that the distribution volume of the contrast agent is proportional to body weight. The delayed Gadolinium Enhanced MRI of Cartilage (dGEMRIC) index is highly correlated to mechanical stiffness, and, although not as good as a direct mechanical measurement, the index can be used BACKGROUND Delayed gadolinium-enhanced MRI of cartilage (dGEMRIC) allows an objective, noninvasive, and longitudinal quantification of biochemical cartilage properties. Although d Delayed gadolinium‐enhanced MRI of cartilage (dGEMRIC) is based on the theory that Gd‐DTPA2− will distribute in inverse relation to cartilage glycosaminoglycan (GAG).

The aims of this study were to measure In Study III, those who increased their physical activity showed a significant increase in dGEMRIC index in both superficial and deep layers in lateral weight-bearing cartilage. Those who decreased their physical activity showed a significant decrease in dGEMRIC index in the medial weight-bearing cartilage.

The dGEMRIC index was calculated as the average of the T1 values for the acetabular and femoral head cartilages. Results: The dGEMRIC index correlated with both pain (rs = -0.50, p < 0.0001) and the lateral center-edge angle (rs = 0.52, p < 0.0001), whereas the joint space width did not correlate with either, with the numbers available. The dGEMRIC index was assessed on MRI according to established protocol. Regression analysis adjusted for age, sex, body mass index (BMI), and presence of clinical knee OA. Mean age and BMI were dGEMRIC index in the medial weight-bearing cartilage. Use of the dGEMRIC index as a predictive measure of stiffness is possible, depending on the application's acceptable error. T (1Gd) (T (1) after penetration of a 0.2 mmol/kg dose of Gd-DTPA (2-)) has been used as the dGEMRIC index, although (1/T (1Gd)-1/T (1o)) should be more representative of Gd-DTPA (2-) concentration (where T (1o) = T (1) before contrast). Thus, a higher dGEMRIC index indicates healthier cartilage (Fig. 1) [ 59 ]. Similar to the knee [ 4, 34 ], dGEMRIC is a promising tool to quantify cartilage healing or degeneration before and after joint-preserving hip surgery and to monitor the natural course of hip diseases.

An intraobserver analysis for T1 analysis was made in 10 randomly selected SCFE hips. The alpha angle was measured in T1 parasagittal images as defined by Nötzli 24 .
